My Experience as an Online Student at The King’s Academy

The King’s Academy has had to make many changes and sacrifices to keep students who attend the school safe. Due to the global pandemic, also known as Coronavirus, the TKA administration along with the faculty and staff have taken precautions towards making the campus safe for all during this situation. An example would be the choice for all students to attend school on-campus or to participate in school online. I have had experience with online school at TKA. Many of the procedures went very well such as all of the testings for each class.

During the day, I could begin working on school whenever I felt like it, but I did have to finish by a certain time. The administration has made online easier by delaying everything assigned, even assessments by twenty-four hours. The cons of being an online student are that you might not get as much information on the lesson as a student on campus and in the classroom might, and responsibility is taken at a much higher level. An elementary student may have an easier experience online because they may have help from a parent or guardian, whereas a high school student is expected to be able to handle their own matters by themselves. The responsibility factor is presented to the student depending on how the student feels. Because the online students are able to finish school before those on campus, they may feel the urge to rush or skip important factors due to focusing on other things that are not school-related. One thing that may be distracting towards online students is social media. I say this from the many times I have encountered a situation where the student has been tempted to be entertained by other things, such as social media, instead of school. When I was in this situation, I realized that I had to start taking things a lot more seriously. It was my experience, given the fact that I was lacking dedication to being motivated, I switched from online to on campus. I believe that on-campus has made me, as well as other students who were in the same position, more aware of the academic expectations and responsibilities. It’s great to be back on campus!
