Life, in all of its busyness, obstacles, and commotion, often miraculously lends time for leisure and pleasure. Apart from all the daily duties and obligations one must fill, there remains a passion, a hobby, or an activity that is desired to be sought after. Many people enjoy sports, or music, or art, or clubs, giving them motivation to complete their given tasks so that they may have time to pursue those interests. With the seventeen years of “experience” that I have had on this earth, I have learned an important lesson: the “hobbies” that we like to do play an immense role in shaping who we are as a person. The activities that are taken part in following required responsibilities allow our true personalities to shine. In this world, it is essential to utilize the freedoms we are given and to continually exemplify the person that we were created to be.
Measure, mix, heat, decorate. If you have not already guessed it, my passion is baking. When I was around ten years-old, the idea of creating something that could be enjoyed by my friends and family was mesmerizing. I would spend hours in the kitchen trying to conjure up my own recipes and work on my skills. Suddenly, culinary programs became my ultimate favorite genre to watch on tv. I usually ended up making a mess or serving an “unappetizing” dish, but each and every time I practiced I became better at the art of baking.
Personally, my love for baking symbolizes my love for serving other people. The best part of completing a dessert or pastry is seeing the smiling faces of those who get to eat it. I make baked goods for teachers, birthdays, friends, celebrations, holidays, and on random occasions. Food is a language through which others can communicate. It is essential, but it is also social and bonding. My inner baker only strengthens the foundation of my servant heart.
Of course, while the meaning of a hobby can implicitly reveal details about one’s character, it also has a simplistic reasoning. Baking signifies a life goal that I have, to make an impact in this world and to make others happy, but it is just enjoyable too. It opens a door for me to release my creativity and erase my stresses away. It enables me to engage in a pastime that is not an intense academic subject, music program, or chore.
Although there are several traits that shape me into who I am, I firmly believe that baking has had one of the most valuable impacts in my life. Even as life gets busier, I still find moments to bake, because it is important to me. If ever the opportunity struck, I would love to start up my own bakery one day. I have my priorities set, however, you never know where life will lead you. I am so blessed to be granted with numerous talents and abilities, and I want to make sure that I am completely fulfilling my potential. The actions I do, the passions I pursue, and the attitude I chose contribute to my journey to discover myself and my purpose.
