There’s no way to sugar-coat this. Literally. During lunch, Christian Pisani, a junior at The King’s Academy, ate The World’s Hottest Chocolate.
And no amount of sugar could coat the spice.
Near the beginning of this school year, during a lunch consisting of hot wings, Pisani’s lunch table had a discussion about spicy foods. The discussion resulted in a challenge: Pisani had to eat The World’s Hottest Chocolate, followed by the spiciest lollipop in existence, called “Toe of Satan“. To help you understand the severity of these spicy snacks, let me put things into perspective. One of the world’s hottest peppers is the Carolina Reaper pepper, which contains 2.2 million Scoville Heat units. The World’s Hottest Chocolate, however, despite only being an approximate square-inch, contains 9 million Scoville Heat units. This is roughly 900 times hotter than a jalapeno pepper. The Toe of Satan boasts a similar score on the heat register. The dare was scheduled for October 15th, the first day of TKA Homecoming. The idea was to kick off the week with a little bit of spice. Well, more than a little bit…
About two months after the challenge was born, the day of reckoning arrived. A senior, Adriana Portella, brought the chocolate square and the lollipop to school. A pound of sugar and a carton of milk were also brought to combat the heat Pisani intended to endure.
After fourth period ended, Pisani’s table gathered around, along with a few surrounding tables outside the TKA café, to watch him consume the chocolate. Logan Weisberg photographed Pisani and the snacks, before taking a video of what followed.
Pisani ate The World’s Hottest Chocolate in two bites, managing to swallow the spice before it kicked in. Immediately after, Pisani turned to the lollipop. As he began sucking on it, the spice from the chocolate, combined with the spice from the lollipop, started overwhelming his mouth. Red-faced and teary-eyed, Pisani kept going, sucking on the pop for around a minute before declaring victory. As the crowd cheered around him, Pisani spooned sugar into his mouth, washing it down with several glasses of milk.
When questioned what Pisani intended to do, he replied that he intended to keep the packaging of the chocolate as a trophy of his victory. He also said that he would take the lollipop to his next period and continue his effort to conquer it. In addition to the satisfaction of his success, Pisani won $40 from his table, a prize that was promised if he managed to complete the challenge.
In summary, Pisani’s courage and determination was a great kickoff to the festivities that will follow throughout this Homecoming week.
May the legend of the boy who ate The World’s Hottest Chocolate live on…
