From our dearly held memories to the fields of war! The 2021 Grandparents Day in TKA was an emotional rollercoaster while the King’s grandparents were honored along with the veterans among them. On November 12th the doors of the Page Family Center for Performing Arts were open to the proud grandparents who deserved a greeting in the best way that The King’s Academy can do. The Smith Conservatory of The Arts filled the day with outstanding presentations with the Jazz Band, The Dance Team, His People, King’s Kids, K-1st and In Him Choir, the King’s Regiment, and Symphonic Band, seeking to honor the ones in the crowd.
The new producing artistic director, Kyle Schnack, introduced the conservatory program, being followed by the first presentation of the K-1st Choir, singing “Grandma and Grandpa We Love You” and the inspirational welcoming of Randal Martin, the school’s president, where he announced the record number of grandparents visiting the school, more than 850 of them were present on campus enjoying the program.
The presentations followed along with endearing videos of students sharing their favorite memories with their grandparents, being a sensitive and funny moment for the students and the families. The dance team and the choir students also presented classic songs like “America the Beautiful”, “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy”, “God Bless The USA” and “I Salute You”. During the last song cited, the veterans were invited to stand up to be honored, creating an emotional and inspiring atmosphere that brought tears into the crowd and students’ eyes, proving once again the gratitude of the United States for their service and sacrifice.
The whole day was filled with students and staff sharing stories, smiles, and moments, being thankful for their elders and all of what they had done to change their world. The King’s community was honored to have them on campus, and as the digital media teacher, film producer, and former member of the army, Phillip King shared in his speech, the United States is one nation under God, and in King’s, that is praised daily.
