The King’s Academy’s 2022-2023 Prefects shared advice with their peers concerning faith, leadership, relationships, and life.
Recently, during a Thursday chapel on January 19th, some of The King’s Academy’s Prefects participated in a panel discussion about the challenges they faced in high school and how they have overcome them.
Mr. Bartz, the Director of Student Ministries at TKA, asked the Prefects Madison James, Gabby da Sliva, Paige Munna, Gianna Del Nero Marcondes, Will McPherson, Ruby Yang, and Maximo Toledo questions concerning faith, friendships, life, and leadership. The different perspectives on these topics from these student leaders were inspirational and relatable for the high school audience, of which many might be struggling with similar things.
Faith
Growing in faith can be hard in this crazy world where so much information that is not aligned with the truth is presented to students every day. The panel used this chapel as an opportunity to share their faith with their peers and explain what they have done to grow in stronger in it.
Friendships
Among the Prefects, many had something to say about friendships, and for students, no matter how many friends they have, friendships are a major part of their lives. For some, friendships have a very positive influence on them, but for others, they may be toxic, and the students in the panel got to share their experience with how to deal with situations like that. It is important for everyone to find a healthy friendship in a group with life-giving people who care for each other because one’s friends will influence their future.
In a friendship, when you’re constantly giving and the other person is always taking, that’s a red flag. If they’re taking advantage of you, then you need to cut them off. You have to know your worth, and if that person or those people don’t appreciate you, then it’s probably not a friendship you want to maintain.
Life
Life is complicated, and it can be difficult to navigate, especially in circumstances of uncertainty. When the wrong choice is made, it can lead to regret, but as was shared by multiple Prefects in the panel, past mistakes are lessons, and they make a person who they are, so even if they could be undone, they should not be undone. However, this is not to say that mistakes should be praised. They should be guide everyone to do better, not to ignore the consequences. Additionally, it was shared that it is critical for students to be able to manage their time wisely and not waste it because it can never be recovered once it is lost.
Leadership
All of the students in the panel were Prefects, which means that they were in a position of leadership at the school. They have experience with leadership, and some are even leaders in multiple areas. Leadership is not easy, and they got the opportunity to share with the students more about how they can prepare for future leadership roles. It is not often that students get to speak at The King’s Academy’s chapels, but the Prefect panel chapel was one of those inspirational times when all the students get to hear encouragement and advice from their peers concerning many of the challenges they face in high school. Hopefully, it was impactful and inspired change in all who heard it.
