Leading into this Valentine’s season, many students are excited for the annual Valentine Carnations and Candy sale. Students look forward to this event because of the sweet treats, but also to show their affection to their close friends. Each year, the sale is a massive success, but what many people may not know is the amount of work and effort behind the event. The weeks before Valentine’s are spent sorting orders by many students after school for multiple days a week. But would you believe that is the easy part? The real labor happens in the couple of days before Valentine’s, where over 20+ students work for around six hours to assemble candies and flowers. Senior Antoya Pryce, who has been a backbone of this event for the last couple of years, says, “The process is very long, but the end result is so rewarding to see the joy on student’s faces.” The sheer scale of this event is astonishing, along with the dedication of many students. So, as you look forward to eating chocolate and spending time with loved ones this February 14th, remember to take time to appreciate those around you, even if their efforts cannot be seen.
