The TKA Theatre Company had a successful 2025-2026 season, opening with the beloved DreamWorks musical The Prince of Egypt. Then came the magnetic production of Shakespeare’s Henry V, featuring a modern twist on a well-known classic. Following the play was the upbeat, lighthearted musical of Moana Jr, which featured the conservatory’s elementary and middle school levels. Finally, to close out the season, TKA Theatre Company performed an electric production of the classic musical Guys and Dolls.
Guys and Dolls is an exciting, heartfelt, and fast-paced musical following the story of a group of gamblers – or crapshooters in this sense – and a mission band led by Sarah Brown, who is determined to change the hearts of the gamblers. Things take a turn for her when she meets crapshooter Sky Masterson, who made a bet with fellow crapshooter Nathan Detroit that he could take Sarah with him to Havana, even though the two did not know each other. It becomes complicated when Sky finds himself falling for Sarah.
The TKA Theatre Company strives to do everything solely for the glory of God and to touch the hearts of people in the audience through their performances. Although the musical does not have a Christian message, God’s truth can still be found within stories that do not necessarily have a religious meaning. Senior Lauren Karuzas said, “The story focuses on redemption, and how in the end the crapshooters changed their ways. It isn’t necessarily a Bible show, but Biblical truths like forgiveness and repentance can be seen in the story.”
Marking the end of the season also marked the end of the theater journey for many of the TKA Theatre Company’s seniors. For several of the seniors, it marked the end of a long time in the King’s Theater shows, while for some, it was only their first production. However, it was special to everyone as it closes this chapter in their life and opens a new one as they move on to college. In regards to closing her last show, senior Madison Anderer said, “There is nothing I could say that could begin to encapsulate how much gratitude I have for this place and the people within it.” It is evident that Guys and Dolls marked the end of a very special season for the seniors, but it also marks new beginnings to come.
