Thanksgiving is the time of year when we should be reminded of the true importance of spending time with family and being grateful. The King’s Academy’s annual food drive has officially ended with grades 7th-12th bringing in 7,443 items, elementary with 4,925 items, and an overall total of 12,368 collected items. The food drive was a great way to help support less fortunate people in the Palm Beach County area. Key Club members participated after school in packaging the items to be sent to CROS Ministries. With the recent hurricane Nicole, students and Key Club members could still drop off food items on Thursday before the reopening of TKA. Key Club members also helped to package after the Grandparents/Veterans Day performance. The goods are then delivered to the CROS Ministries, distributed throughout Palm Beach and Martin County. Last year, CROS Ministries reached 75,709 individuals who received bags of food items. This organization focuses on ending hunger and while continuing to work, they have plans to accomplish these goals. Key Club’s 9th Grade President, Amelie Nobel, said it best when she stated, “I believe that the food drive is important because families all over the world, and even as close as our county and state, are struggling to find food. Even if we donated a small number of items, we are still helping people that can’t afford to eat. The food drive also teaches us to have compassion for those who don’t have as much as we do.” The King’s Academy strives to encourage students to give back to the community and those in need through the recent food drive and the upcoming Believe with Me Toy Drive.
